Since its formation, CISRS showed its allegiance to the issues and concerns of the marginalized communities in India. P.D. Devanandan and M.M. Thomas initiated studies and research in the area of subaltern counter-religious movements such as neo-Buddhism. Abraham Ayrookuzhiel extended this focus and introduced popular religions in theological deliberations. Nirmal Minz s efforts to document Tribal awakening in India was a remarkable contribution of CISRS. CISRS’ initiatives in Womanist and Dalit movements enhanced the origin and development of radical theologies in India.
